A Passel of Pocket Mirrors

About two months ago I purchased a button making machine and also supplies to make pocket mirrors. It's just another one of my quixotic ideas. I have since been been buttonizing and mirrorizing a multitude of printed items in my studio.

This featured collection of buttons is made from a promo poster I received in a shipment of envelopes from a paper company. The images are cute, frightening, strange, and marvelous. As mirrors, they amuse me to no end. My favorite is the cleric (Father Stabby McStabberson, I call him) who is pounding a wooden stake into what I'm guessing is a member of the un-dead.

On a technical note, this pen and ink drawing was made by slowly building layers of cross-hatched lines. It's very easy to get carried away. The tough part is deciding when enough is enough.

Of Dashed Hopes and Dreams

I know you've all been waiting with bated breath regarding the outcome of my "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" audition. The rejection came in a postcard today -- oh, cruel fate! I guess I won't be vacationing in Monaco any time soon. And that leprosarium in Palawan won't be naming a wing in my honor after all.

I feel I'm taking this rejection well. My only regret, is that it will be hard to watch the show from now on without feeling a little bitter. I don't regret trying out for the show. There is some satisfaction in having put in the effort. At least I know that I tried and it didn't work out. It was a lark and I promise you this: this is not the last of my quixotic adventures.
